Digital Media College Portfolio

My name is Tyler Geroux. I was born on June 13th, 2000 in the state of Arizona. At age 3, I was diagnosed with autism.  Since Junior High, I have been interested in filmmaking and recording plush videos for YouTube. In high school, I started taking Digital Media classes until I graduated in 2019, In mid-2020, I started to make TikTok videos with his plush toy characters that I still collects to this day. I am currently taking classes at Chandler-Gilbert Community College Pecos. I hope that my creative art skills inspire more students to pursue their dreams in the Film & Art Industry.

About

Unit 1

So, for my Unit 1 Final Project, my sanctuary is a video game world in a style of Super Mario Bros. since I was inspired by the Super Mario game franchise. In the picture, I used the following effects: 3D, Drop Shadow, and Bevel & Emboss. I even added a blur and changed the opacity of the shadows for the question block, the castle, and the enemies. For the grass, I changed the perspective, the size, and I even made them look like a couple of grassy hills.

I call it “Video Game Life: A Sanctuary for Tyler Geroux.” Here’s how I managed to put it together: I took a photo of myself posing like Mario as if he was jumping to get a power up or a coin from the power block. I also added 3D words that say, “Video Game Life!” to the picture so that it can sound awesome and inspiring. The enemies and the question block in the picture were made with different shape layers and colors. Then, for the question block, I made it into a 3D Layer while it was selected. Finally, for the castle, I researched different images of castle and chose the one shown in the picture because it reminded me of the Sleeping Beauty castle at Disneyland.

Unit 2

For this project, I made my own vectorized poster of a film I would like to make some day. It’s called “The Crossover Movie.” The message behind it is when worlds collide, friendships get bigger and better. It is supposed to be an animated musical comedy adventure film that would entertain families with characters they are familiar with in a whole new and positive way. The message is important to me because the world we live is currently dark, but with a shine of hope and positivity according to Jesus, we can make the world a better place.

What inspired this poster is musical movies that I loved and enjoyed such as the 2017 film “The Greatest Showman”, starring Hugh Jackman, the 1992 film “Aladdin” and the 2022 Christmas film “Spirited” starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. This poster as you may know is a vectorized fan poster featuring characters like Mario and Sonic for example. I am inspired by the fanbase of these franchises featured in the poster. The concept of the poster as mentioned is expanding friendships and working together to protect one another. Just like how God saved us from sin and death. I’m really glad to work on this project. I hope you guys love it as much as I do. Thank you, and have a great day!

For my Unit 3 Final Project, I did a soundwalk about playing with LEGO with Mario sounds and music. This project involved a lot of creativity. Feel free to take a listen and see what you think of it?

Unit 4

So, the theme I chose for this project is Room Space. I recorded different angles of my room where I make videos in. I included different my art that I drew in high school that is currently on my bedroom door, and my computer desk where I edit my videos. I was also going to include my LEGO Mario clip, but I wasn’t sure if that would be possible. I took up angle shots, forward shots, turning angles, and the zooming angles for each scene.

For the storyboard, I imported different shot frames from my camera and put them into a template of a storyboard page. Then, I made sure that each scene and shot was labeled for the storyboard. I was able to import 12 frames total, and 6 frames on each page. My final video can be seen on my YouTube channel. I really had fun with this project. Even though it was a little hard at first, I was able to understand it more.

Unit 5

For my Unit 5 Final Project, I did a short LEGO stop motion animation of my favorite Christmas story A Christmas Carol by the famous author Charles Dickens. The reason why I chose this narrative story is because of the life lesson in the end of the story, which is to be patient, kind, and generous and not be selfish. This story has inspired me to make many adaptations every Christmas. I even have the book that I can read for more inspiration. I’ve put so much effort into this project. Stop motion animation has been something I’ve always wanted to do.

The concept for this animation was to make another adaptation of one of the most beloved classic stories ever told. I used LEGO minifigures to make certain characters such as The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To Come. The story itself relates to my concept through a retelling in a LEGO format. One thing I would want my viewers to take away from my work would be to be creative no matter what your interests are. I’ve had so much fun with this project!
